Resmosaic – Bringing together the pieces of life career.

Marketing Message

Resmosaic is a site that stores and organizes the personal, professional and educational accomplishments of the people. Resmosaic provides solutions for storing information rather than a simple mass storage space. This  video had to educate users on how to use the site, understand why they needed to become a user and motivate them to share it with others.

How we approached it

After brainstorming and research, we decided to put forward the fact that ‘Not just ANYONE but EVERYONE’ could benefit from Resmosaic. After deciding on who an ideal customer would be, we narrowed in on the storytelling style. The story speaks of the main character who is an ‘over achiever’ all the way, and couldn’t  keep track of his achievements/accomplishments, and how Resmosaic helps bringing together the pieces of life career.

Style

Visual storytelling ,is an easy and widely used approach to make people understand and relate to the video(viewer’s side). Its yet a tough chapter if not mastered with ‘too much of ‘Must do’s and please dont’s’ (Creator’s side), we chose line drawing style ( a close call ) for Resmosaic video . The script had a past – of course the character’s past – and present, and Resmosaic wanted the achievements and accomplishments to pile up on the character .Time to wear ‘THINK TANK’ jackets ( with B.G Music – johny quest theme ). We quested and decided to have the character’s past shown as ‘Old movie effect’ on the left side and the character in the right side with the accomplishments piling in sync with the left side.

Colors

Sixteen million colors in your palette, uffff hard for any artist- to turn down-especially for this Resmosaic video. Keeping it simple,  I chose solid color fill over stroke concept  and colors that would make viewers relate to it realistically- like aqua color for the sea, green for the plants – see how simple. The important play with the colors was when selecting the skin tone for the character . It was to go with all the background and asset colors. So a complementary  tone was used

Character

‘Pete’ – that’s what we call him –  our main character. As already said , the story revolves around him, having achievements in many fields and in all stages of life till present. Taking this into mind, the character was designed in such a way that it looks smart  and athletic. A few variations in costume and hairstyle are made in each stages to make it suit the best with the scene . Apart from our main character we had two supporting characters – Pete’s wife and their son. The female character was designed skin tone lighter than Pete’s and their son was designed with Pete’s resemblance and his mom’s tone. Yet we did not give any of them too dark or light shade- we did not want to alienate anyone

Visualization

We started visualising the end product during the pre-production phase with lot of sketches of the background, assets and the character on the table. Transitions, character movements and animations were visualised there so that the production became an easy task. Resmosaic wanted us to highlight the main character over the rest of the characters in all the frames . So we decided to keep most of the character inanimated and merged with the background, a few characters with only their hand being established and a few others being less animated. Thus Pete was established in all the shots.

Animation

With a list of methods to animate a character using expressions, parenting, basic transformation tools or even Inverse Kinematics known( as AE expert) , I chose the puppet tool – complicated yet an efficient tool. Trying to concentrate more on physical movements more than facial reaction of the character, is for the reason that in most of the shots the character is shown in long shots and not in close ups, body gesture and movements are established than rest . The pace of the animations was synced with the b.g music. Finally – the end product  was exactly as we had visualised – the entire production of the Resmosaic video was exciting and innovating.
